THOUGHTS
If someone were to ask me to write a paragraph on God’s delivery of Israel from
Egyptian bondage, it would not sound like Ps 77:11-20 below. I’d have
considered the facts and events and maybe significant people. It would have
been a basic historical account. The psalm below does none of that. It pursues the
Almighty God behind it all.
It’s kind of like the difference between the synoptic gospels [Mt, Mk, Lk] and
John. They all cover the life of Christ, but John goes to the heart of
the Savior. No wonder John was the “disciple whom Jesus loved.”
Ps 77:11-20 I shall remember the deeds of the LORD;
Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. 12 I will meditate
on all Your work And muse on Your deeds. 13 Your way, O God, is
holy; What god is great like our God? 14 You are the God who works
wonders; You have made known Your strength among the peoples. 15 You
have by Your power redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph.
Selah. 16 The waters saw You, O God; The waters saw You, they were in
anguish; The deeps also trembled. 17 The clouds poured out water; The
skies gave forth a sound; Your arrows flashed here and there. 18 The
sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; The lightnings lit up the world;
The earth trembled and shook. 19 Your way was in the sea And Your
paths in the mighty waters, And Your footprints may not be known. 20 You
led Your people like a flock By the hand of Moses and Aaron.
When I read the above, my thoughts turn to the AWESOME POWER that made it all happen. That
same power has worked for our benefit throughout history. “You have by
Your power redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph.” Ps
77:15 Surely that applies to us.
Eph 3:14-21 For this reason I bow my knees before the
Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives
its name, 16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through
His Spirit in the inner man, 17
so that Christ
may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18
may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth
and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ
which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of
God. 20 Now to
Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according
to the power that works within us, 21 to Him be the glory in the
church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
Today... May each of us be “filled up to all the fulness of God”!
My Prayer:
Oh mighty God of eternity, let us see your majesty continually that we might
know our smallness and lift you up to the highest place. We desire a
greater capacity for awe, and reverence of you. Help us to worship you as
we rise and as we prepare for sleep. There is no God but you.
Hallowed be Thy name. May the light of your glory be seen in us.
In the Name of our Savior and Lord
Amen
